  1. WEEK 7 Class 4C, 4D UNIT 5: CAN YOU SWIM? LESSON 1 (1 + 2) Time: Monday, October 25th 2021 A. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge - Ask and answer question about what someone can/ cannot do. - Sentence Patterns: What can you do? − I can ___. - Vocabulary: can, skip, skate, cook, swim, but. 2. Skills. - Listening and speaking. 3. Attitudes. - Ss know to take care of their friends. 4. Competences: - Co-operation love schools and about abilities of someone. - Self-study ability, ability to operate, live responsibly. - Using language to talk about the days of the week. B. LANGUAGE FOCUS - Sentence Patterns : What can you do? - I can __________. - Words: skate, skip, cook, swim, dance, draw, sing C. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES - Students’ book (page 30) - Situational pictures and activity pictures on page 30 - activities pictures - laptop, TV D. LEARNING PLAN Activity 1. Warm -up Let sts listen to an activity song “What can you do?” on the Internet Activity 2. Look, listen and repeat Whole class: Have pupils turn their books to Page 30 - Ask pupils about the characters in the pictures - Explain the meaning of the language practised. - Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen, and point to the appropriate line in their books. - Play the recording again for pupils to repeat the lines in the speech bubbles. - Repeat the steps a few times. - Some Ss role play and the others comment. - Ask Ss to role play. - Ask Ss to role play before the class. - Elicit the model sentences: - What can you do? + I can dance. Knowledge - Ask and answer question about whether someone can do something. - Sentence Patterns: Can you ___? − Yes, I can. / No, I can’t. - Vocabulary: Play table tennis, play volleyball, play the piano, play the guitar 2. Skills: - Listening and speaking. 3. Attitudes: Ss know to take care of their friends. 4. Competences: - Co-operation love schools and about daily activities of someone. - Self-study ability, ability to operate, live responsibly. - Using language to talk about whether someone can do something. Knowledge: - Ask and answer question about whether someone can do something. - Pronounce the letter s in sing, and the letter cluster sw in swim. - Listen and number the sentences. Then say them aloud. - Say the chant Can you sing? - Sentence Patterns: Revision - Vocabulary: Revision 2. Skills: - Listening and speaking. 3. Attitudes/ Quality: To help Ss loving English. 4. Forming competence: - Be proactive when performing tasks - Have communication skills and active participate in teamwork B. LANGUAGE FOCUS - Vocabulary: revision C. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES - laptop, loudspeaker D. LEARNING PLAN Activity 1: Warm -up Play the game: “Pass the ball” Can you swim? Activity 2. Listen and repeat Have pupils turn to page 34 of their Student Books. - Tell them they are going to learn how to pronoun the sound /s/ and /sw/ in the words sing, swim. - Produce the sound /s/ and /sw/ a few times. Ask pupils to say what they think about when they hear these sounds.
  5. - Play the recording again for the whole class to repeat each line in the speech bubbles to reinforce their pronunciation. - Ask sts to find some more words with the sound “s, sw” Ex: see, sit, song, say, skip swing, sweet, sweater, swan, sw Activity 3. Listen and number. Then say aloud - Have pupils look the sentences and given. - Get sts say aloud - Tell the pupils that they are going to listen four dialoges and number from 1 to 4 - Play the recording twice pupils to listen and number. - Compare the answers with the partner. - Play the recording again pupils check their answers. T gives the answer: - Have pupils act out the dialogue in pairs or groups for correction. - Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text. Answer: 1- Can you swim? 2- Can you sit on the chair? 3 – Can you swing? 4 – Can you sing? Activity 4. Let’s chant: Can you sing? - Put the piece of paper with the chant from Page 34 written on it on the board. - Tell pupils that they are going to chant. - Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen as they read. Clap the syllables. - Play the recording again for pupils to repeat each line of the chant and clap the syllables. - Call on some pupils to perform the chant at the front of the class. The rest of the class observe and give comments if possible. Activity 5. Wrap -up - Summary the lesson - Do exercises E in workbook
