  1. WEEK 6 Class 4C, 4D UNIT 4: WHEN’S YOUR BIRTHDAY? LESSON 2 (1 - 3) Time: Monday, October 18th 2021 A. OBJECTIVES - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge - Ask and answer questions about someone's birthday. - Sentence Patterns:When’s your birthday? − It’s on ____. - Vocabulary: Months: January, February, March, April, May, June 2. Skills - Listening and speaking. 3. Attitudes/ Quality - Confident in learning and practice situations 4. Forming competence - Co-operation - Using language to ask and answer questions about someone's birthday. B. LANGUAGE FOCUS - Sentence Patterns: - When’s your birthday? + It’s on the thirteenth of October. C. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES - Students’ book (page 26) - Situational pictures and activity pictures on page 26 - pictures - laptop, TV D. LEARNING PLAN Activity 1: Warm -up: Slap the board October September January April June February November December August Activity 2: Look, Listen and repeat * Set the scene: The situation “Happy birthday” - Ask pupils the names of the characters and where they are. - Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen, and point to the appropriate line in their books. - Play the recording again for pupils to repeat the lines in the speech bubbles. - Repeat the step a few times. - Some Ss role play and the others comment. - Ask Ss to role play. - Ask Ss to role play before the class. - Explain the meaning of the language practised. Activity 3: Point and say - Ask Sts to look at the date given on the calendars.
  2. - Play CD for sts listen and repeat all the dates given - Read the words and have pupils read in chorus, individuals. - Explain the pattern: - When’s your birthday ? + It’s on the first of January. - Ask pupils about what they get information to say. - Tell them that they are going to practise asking and answering about the birthdays. - Have pupils point and repeat the dates a few times. * Pairwork: - Have pupils play roles according to the birthdays given to ask and answer. - Call on some students to perform the task at the front of the class. The rest of the class observe and give respond. Activity 4. Let’s talk - Ask them to read the questions given. - Ask pupils to answer the questions. * Pairwork - Have pupils ask and answer in pairs. - Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation (stress, assimilation of sounds and intonation), and offer help when necessary. - Call on some pairs to perform the task at the front of the class. The rest of the class observe and give comments if possible. - Make a few questions to check pupils' comprehension of the language. - Have the whole class repeat all the phrases in chorus * Suggested answer: 1. It’s the fourteenth of October. 2. It’s on Activity 5. Wrap – up a. Summary the lesson - Review dates of birth - Structure: - When’s your birthday ? + It’s on the b. Doing exercises: - Have sts do the ex C in WB. - Checking UNIT 4: WHEN’S YOUR BIRTHDAY? LESSON 3 (1 - 3) Time: Wednesday, October 20th 2021 A. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: - Pronounce the sounds of the letters th and ch in the words fourth and March respectively. - Listen and circle the words filling the gapped sentences. Then write the words and say the completed sentences aloud. - Say the chant When’s your birthday? - Sentence Patterns: Revision
  3. - Vocabulary: Revision 2. Skills: Listening, writing and speaking. 3. Attitudes/ Quality: To help Ss loving English. 4. Forming competence: - Self-study - Communication - Using language to talk about someone’s birthday B. LANGUAGE FOCUS - Vocabulary: revision C. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES - laptop, loudspeaker D. LEARNING PLAN Activity 1: Warm -up Telling names dates in a month and months in a year Activity 2. Listen and repeat Have pupils turn to page 28 of their Student Books. - Tell them they are going to learn how to pronoun the sound /th/ and /ch/ in the words fourth, March. - Produce the sound /th/ and /ch/ a few times. Ask pupils to say what they think about when they hear these sounds. - Play the recording again for the whole class to repeat each line in the speech bubbles to reinforce their pronunciation. Activity 3. Listen and circle. Then say aloud: - Have pupils look the sentences and words given. - Get sts say aloud - Tell the pupils that they are going to listen four dialoges and circle the correct words. - Play the recording twice pupils to listen and choose the correct answers. Compare the answers with the partner. - Play the recording again pupils check their answers. T gives the answer: - Have pupils act out the dialogue in pairs or groups for correction. - Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text. Answer: 1- a; 2 - a 3 – b 4 - b Activity 4. Let’s chant: When’s your birthday? - Put the piece of paper with the chant from Page 22 written on it on the board. - Tell pupils that they are going to chant. - Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen as they read. Clap the syllables. - Play the recording again for pupils to repeat each line of the chant and clap the syllables. - Call on some pupils to perform the chant at the front of the class. The rest of the class observe and give comments if possible. Activity 5. Wrap -up - Summary the lesson - Do exercises E in workbook, learn by heart the new words
  4. UNIT 4: WHEN’S YOUR BIRTHDAY? LESSON 1. 4 + LESSON 3 (5 + 6) Time: Friday, October 22nd 2021 A. OBJECTIVES - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge - Listen and tick the dates - Write to a birthday invitation - Sentence Patterns: Revision - Vocabulary: Revision 2. Skills: listening, reading and writing 3. Attitudes/ Quality - To help Ss know how to introduce themselves about class, day and weekend activities. 4. Forming competence - Communication - Self- study - Apply what they have learned to solve learning tasks - Present in front of the class B. LANGUAGE FOCUS - Sentence Patterns: My name is . I’m in class . Today is I often .. at the weekend. C. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES - laptop, loudspeaker - poster D. LEARNING PLAN Activity 1. Warm – up Recite the chant: What do you do on ..? Activity 2. Listen and tick - Have pupils look the dates given in each line . - Get sts say aloud - Tell the pupils that they are going to listen four dialoges and tick the correct words. - Play the recording twice pupils to listen and choose the correct answers. - Compare the answers with the partner. - Play the recording again pupils check their answers. - T gives the answer: - Have pupils act out the dialogue in pairs or groups for correction. - Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text. * Answer: 1- b ; 2 - c ; 3- a Activity 3. Write an invitation card - Have pupils discuss about the content of an invitation - Get sts’ ideas - Give feedback and contribute - Pupils write individually.
  5. - Monitor the activity, and offer help when necessary. - Call on some pupils to write on the board and other pupils write in the notebooks in individuals. - Have pupils comment the answer on the board. - Call some pupils read aloud their work in front of the class. * Suggested answer: Please come to my birthday party To: Nga Date: the twentieth of October Time: 7.00 pm Adress: My house – Thanh Van village From: Lan Activity 4. Make a birthday card . Then tell the class about it - Show a model birthday card - Tell pupils that they are going to make a birthday card themselves to happy their friend’s birthday. - sts do the work individually - Ss go around to check - Have Ss show their cards and tell about them Activity 5.
