- WEEK 3 Class 4C, 4D UNIT 2: I’M FROM JAPAN LESSON 1 (1 + 2) Time: Monday, September 27th 2021 A. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge - Ask and answer questions about where someone is from. - Sentence Patterns: Hi. I’m ____. Where are you from? Hi, ____. I’m____. I’m from ____. - Vocabulary: Akiko, Hakim, Tom, Tony, Linda Japan, Malaysia, America, Australia, England 2. Skills. - Listening and speaking. 3. Attitudes/ Quality: - Ss love their countries. 4.Forming competence: - Communication - Self- study - Using language to talk about where someone is from B. LANGUAGE FOCUS - Sentence Patterns: - Where are you from? + I’m from_____________. - Vocabulary: Japan, Malaysia, America, Australia, England, Vietnam C. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES - Students’ book (page 12) - Situational pictures and activity pictures on page 12. - pictures of flags and countries - laptop, TV D. LEARNING PLAN Activity 1. Warm -up Hello Good evening - Chant on P.10 Good afternoon - Slap the board. Hi Good night Acyivity 2. Look, listen and repeat • Whole class: Have pupils turn their books to Page 12. -Ask pupils the names of the characters and what they say. -Tell them that they are going to hear Nam and Akiko are talking about where they are from. - Explain the meaning of the language practised.
- -Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen, and point to the appropriate line in their books. - Play the recording again for pupils to repeat the lines in the speech bubbles. Repeat the step a few times. - Some Ss role play and the others comment. - Ask Ss to role play. - Ask Ss to role play before the class. Acyivity 3. Point and say - Teach vocabulary: - Japan -Vietnam - Malaysia - America - England - Australia Checking: What and where. - Explain the pattern: + Where are you from? + I’m from______________. - Ask pupils about what they fill in the blank. - Tell them that they are going to practise asking and answering Qs about where someone is from. -Have pupils point and repeat the phrases a few times. - Have pupils look at Pictures a, b,c and d. - Ask them to identify the characters in the pictures. Use flashcards to teach the words and word phrases in the speech bubbles. - Have pupils repeat the phrases a few times. - Model: Call on a pair and ask them to pretend to be Nam and Akiko to ask and answer Qs about where someone is from. - Repeat the step but this time have the pair swap their parts. - Call on one more pair to act out as Hakim and partner, following the same way with Nam and Akiko. - Have the class repeat all the phrases in this section. * Pairwork -Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation (stress, assimilation of sounds and intonation), and offer help when necessary. - Call on some pairs to perform the task at the front of the class. The rest of the class observe and give comments if possible. - Make a few questions to check pupils' comprehension of the language. - Have the whole class repeat all the phrases in chorus Acyivity 4. Skills - Listening and speaking. 3. Attitudes/ Quality - Ss love their countries. 4. Forming competence - Co- operation - Self- study - Using language to solve learning tasks B. LANGUAGE FOCUS - Sentence Patterns: - I’m _____________. - Vocabulary: Vietnamese, English, Australian, Malaysian, Japanese C. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES - Students’ book (page 14) - Situational pictures and activity pictures on page 14 - pictures of countries - laptop, TV D. LEARNING PLAN Activity 1: Warm -up: Country -> Nationality Activity 2: Look, Listen and repeat • Whole class: Have pupils turn their books to Page 14. - Ask pupils the names of the characters and where they are. - Tell them that they are going to hear the woman and Akiko are talking about name and her nationality. - Explain the meaning of the language practised. - Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen, and point to the appropriate line in their books. - Play the recording again for pupils to repeat the lines in the speech bubbles. Repeat the step a few times. - Some Ss role play and the others comment. - Ask Ss to role play. - Ask Ss to role play before the class. Activity 3. Point and say - Ask Sts to look at the pictures on page 14 and identify the characters
- - Introduce vocabulary: Vietnamese, English, Australian, Malaysian, Japanese - Read the new words and have pupils read in chorus, individuals. - Explain the pattern: - What nationality are you? + I’m Vietnamese. - Ask pupils about what they fill in the blank. - Tell them that they are going to practise asking and answering about namtionality. - Have pupils point and repeat the phrases a few times. Model: Call on one student stand in front of the class and teacher introduce him/her for the rest of the class and then the class respond. - Repeat the step with another students. * Pairwork: - Have pupils play roles according to the pictures. - Call on some students to perform the task at the front of the class. The rest of the class observe and give respond. Activity 4. Let’s talk - Ask them to read the questions given. - Ask pupils to answer the questions. * Pairwork - Have pupils ask and answer in pairs. - Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation (stress, assimilation of sounds and intonation), and offer help when necessary. - Call on some pairs to perform the task at the front of the class. Knowledge - Pronounce the sounds of the letters j and v in the words Japan and Vietnamese respectively. - Listen and tick the correct words. Then say the words aloud. - Say the chant What nationality are you? - Sentence Patterns: Revision - Vocabulary: Revision
- 2. Skills: Listening and speaking. 3. Attitudes/ Quality: - Ss love their countries. - To help Ss know how to make friends. 4. Forming competence: - Co- operation - Self- study - Ss know how to greet and respond to greeting. - Communicate English with friends and teacher well B. LANGUAGE FOCUS - Sentence Patterns: - My name is _________. - I’m from _________. - I’m _________. - Vocabulary: revision C. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES - laptop, loudspeaker D. LEARNING PLAN Activity 1: Warm -up: T says names of some countries – Sts says their nationalities Activity 2. Listen and repeat Have pupils turn to Page 16 of their Student Books. - Tell them they are going to learn how to produce the sound of the letter j in the word Japan and that of the letter v in the word Vietnamese. j Japan I’m from Japan. v Vietnamese I’m Vietnamese. - Produce the sounds j and v a few times.Ask pupils to say what they think about when they hear these sounds. - Play the recording again for the whole class to repeat each line in the speech bubbles to reinforce their pronunciation. Activity 3. Listen and tick. Then write and say aloud - Have pupils look the words given. - Get sts say aloud - Tell the pupils that they are going to listen four dialoges and tick the correct words. 1. a. Japan 2. a.Viet nam b. Japanese b. Vietnamese - Play the recording twice pupils to listen and choose the correct answers. Compare the answers with the partner. - Play the recording again pupils check their answers. T gives the answer: - Have pupils act out the dialogue in pairs or groups for correction. - Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text. * Answer: 1. b 2. a Activity 4. Let’s chant What nationality are you? - Put the piece of paper with the chant from Page 16 written on it on the board. - Tell pupils that they are going to chant.
- - Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen as they read. Clap the syllables. - Play the recording again for pupils to repeat each line of the chant and clap the syllables. - Call on some pupils to perform the chant at the front of the class. The rest of the class observe and give comments if possible. Activity 5. Wrap -up - Summary the lesson - Ask sst to do exercises in workbook at home, learn by heart the new words
