- WEEK 14 UNIT 9: WHAT ARE THEY DOING? LESSON 2 (1 - 3) Time: Monday, December 13th 2021 A. OBJECTIVES - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to 1. Knowledge - Ask and answer questions about what people are doing. - Sentence Patterns: What are they doing? − They’re ___. - Vocabulary: painting masks, making a puppet, playing badminton, making paper planes 2. Skills: - Listening and speaking. 3. Attitudes/ Quality - United friend 4. Forming competence: - To know talk about their class - Practise in pairs B. LANGUAGE FOCUS - Sentence Patterns: - What are they doing? + They are drawing pictures. C. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES - Students’ book (page 60) - laptop, TV D. LEARNING PLAN Activity 1: Warm -up Sing the “daily activities” song Activity 2. Look, Listen and repeat - Ask pupils the names of the characters and where they are: Tom and Linda - Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen, and point to the appropriate line in their books. - Play the recording again for pupils to repeat the lines in the speech bubbles. - Repeat the step a few times. - Some Ss role play and the others comment. - Ask Ss to role play. - Ask Ss to role play before the class. - Explain the meaning of the language practised. Activity 3: Point and say - Ask Sts to look at the pictures with the activities given - Play CD for sts listen and repeat all the activities given - Read the words and have pupils read in chorus, individuals. - Explain the pattern: - What are they doing? They are painting masks. - Ask pupils about what they get information to say. - Tell them that they are going to ask and answer what they are doing.
- - Have pupils ask and answer in pairs - Call on all pairs to perform the task at the front of the class. The rest of the class observe and give respond. Activity 4. Let’s talk - Show sts a pictures with activities in the Art room - Ask them to read the questions given: Where is he/ she? What’s he/ she doing? Where are they? What are they doing? - Ask pupils to answer the questions. - Have pupils ask and answer in pairs. - Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation (stress, assimilation of sounds and intonation), and offer help when necessary. - Call on some pairs to perform the task at the front of the class. The rest of the class observe and give comments if possible. - Make a few questions to check pupils' comprehension of the language. - Have the whole class repeat all the phrases in chorus *Suggested answer: They’re in the Art room now. - At the blue table, they’re making a paper boat .. Knowledge - Pronounce the sound of the letters sk and xt in the words mask and text respectively. - Listen and tick the correct words filling the gapped sentences. Then complete the sentences and read them aloud. - Say the chant What’s he doing? - Sentence Patterns: Revision - Vocabulary: Revision 2. Skills - Develop Ss listening, speaking skills, 3. Attitudes/ Quality - Confident when talking English - United friend 4. Forming competence - Know how to practise some sounds - Practise in pairs B. LANGUAGE FOCUS - Vocabulary: revision C. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES - laptop, TV/loudspeaker D. LEARNING PLAN Activity 1: Warm -up Sing “What are they doing?” song - Give feedback Activity 2. Listen and repeat Have pupils open their books at page 62 - Tell them they are going to learn how to pronoun the sounds /sk/ and /xt/ in the words mask, text - Produce the sound /sk/, and /xt/ a few times. Ask pupils to say what they think about when they hear these sounds. - Play the recording again for the whole class to repeat each line in the speech bubbles to reinforce their pronunciation. - Ask sts to find out some words that end with “sk” and “xt” Ex: - sk: desk, - xt: Activity 3. Listen and tick. Then write and say aloud - Have pupils look the sentences with pairs of words given. - Get sts say aloud
- - Tell the pupils that they are going to listen 4 sentences and tick the words they hear to complete the 4 sentences - Play the recording twice pupils to listen and tick. - Compare the answers with the partner. - Play the recording again pupils check their answers. T gives the answer: Answer: 1- a 2- a 3 – a 4 -b - Have pupils read aloud the sentences. Activity 4. Let’s chant: What’s he doing? - Put the piece of paper with the chant from 62 written on it on the board. - Tell pupils that they are going to chant. - Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen as they read. Clap the syllables. - Play the recording again for pupils to repeat each line of the chant and clap the syllables. - Call on some pupils to perform the chant at the front of the class. The rest of the class observe and give comments if possible. Activity 5. Wrap -up - Summary the lesson - Do exercises E in workbook
