  1. WEEK 9 TIẾNG ANH KHỐI 1 Time: Monday, Thursday and Friday UNIT 5: AT THE FISH AND CHIPS SHOP Lesson 1 I. OBJECTIVES: - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: + Remember and say some new words: chicken, chips, fish, milk. + Pronounce the sound of the letter: I/i +Say the letter I/i and the words chicken, chips, fish, milk and the phrases containing /i/ and chicken, chips, fish, milk in a chant. +Listen and identify the words chicken, chips, fish, milk. +Trace the letter I/i. 1. Knowledge/ Language focus: - Vocabulary: chicken, chips, fish, milk. - Sound: /i/ 2. Skills: - Listening and speaking. 3. Quality /Attitude: -Actively participate in activities with their classmates in pairs, groups or class. Educate Ss to become studious and obedient students; love something at the fish and chips shop. 4. Competences: SS can develop some competences: -Comunicative and collaborative competence: work in pairs/groups, role play: work in pairs/groups, role play: work in pairs/groups, role play -Problem-solving competence: observing, collecting and analyzing information -Self studying and self - control competence: remembering, recalling and guessing words/phrases -Creative competence, linguistic competence: giving ideas, changing information, giving comments, critical thinking. II. TEACHING AIDS / MATERIALS: - Pictures, Textbook, computer, projector, pictures, recording III. METHODS: - Communicative language teaching, contextual teaching and learning, total physical response, games activities teaching, Model-Action-Talk, teaching methods by visual, direction method, audiolingual method. IV. PROCEDURE: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Activity 1:Warm up:5’ - SS sing and do the action.
  2. *Aim:help ss to be eager and happy to begin the new lesson. *Procedure: -SS listen ans answer. -Ask Ss to sing the song in Unit 4, Lesson 3 and make the gesture of a duck, a dog and a desk when singing. - Ask Ss some questions about their favourite food and drinks, saying (in Vietnamese) What food do you like? What drinks do you like? Do you like fish? Do you like milk? Activity 2. Listen and repeat:13’ *Aim: help Ss to pronounce the sound of the letter I/i and remember and say some new words: chicken, chips, fish, milk. *Procedure: - Look at the picture and listen. - Have Ss look at the picture and discribe the picture. Draw Ss’ attention to the letter I/i, the words next to the things in the pictures and the colour of the letter I/i .Check comprehension. - Point, listen and repeat. - Ask Ss to point to the letter I/i. Have them listen and repeat the sound of the letter I/i . Tell Ss to point to the chicken and the word chicken. Follow the same procedure with the chips, the fish and the milk. Correct pronunciation, if necessary. -Ss repeat. - Play the recording again and have them listen, point to the letter I/i, the words chicken, chips, fish, milk and repeat until they feel confident. - Play the recording again and call a few Ss to -SS say in front of the class. say the letter I/i, and the words chicken, chips, fish and milk in front of the class . - T checks and corrects. *Outcome: pronounce the sound of the letter I/i and remember and say some new words: chicken, chips, fish, milk. Activity 3. Point and say:14’
  3. *Aim: help Ss to practise pronouncing the sound of the letter I/i and remember and say -Look at the picture and some new words: chicken, chips, fish, milk.. discribe. *Procedure: - Have Ss look at the picture again and describe the picture. Draw their attention to the letter I/i and the food/drinks in the picture. -Point and say - Let them point to the chicken and say the -Work in pairs or in groups. word chicken. Give further support to those Ss who find it difficult to do the task. - Ask Ss to work in pairs or in groups to point to the picture and say the sound of the letter I/i and the words. Go around and -Point and say offer help or correct pronunciation, if necessary. -Invite two or three Ss to point to the picture and say the sound of the letter and the words in front of the class. - T gets feedback. *Outcome: practise pronouncing the sound -SS listen. of the letter I/i and remember and say some new words: chicken, chips, fish, milk. . -SS listen and take note. Activity 4. Listen and chant:10’ *Aim: help Ss to read the chant with some words: chicken, chips, fish, milk.. *Procedure: -Have Ss look at the chant, saying Look at the chant on page 24, please! Draw Ss’ attention to the first line and explain its meaning. Ask them to pay attention to the letter I/i and the word fish. Check -SS look and listen. comprehension. -Play the recording of the first line for Ss to listen and to get familiarized with the rhythm, saying Listen to the first line, please!
  4. - Play the recording again, ask Ss to listen -SS listen. and repeat the first line. Then play the recording for them to listen and repeat until they feel confident. - Follow the same procedure with the other verse. Show Ss how to chant and clap their -Ss listen and repeat. hands. Correct pronunciation, if necessary. - Play the recording all the way through. Ask Ss to listen and repeat the chant individually and in chorus. Give further -SS listen and chant. support to those Ss who find it difficult to do the task. - Select some Ss to the front of the class to chant and clap their hands. The rest of the -Ss listen and repeat. class may sing the chant along and clap their hands. *Outcome: read the chant with some words: chicken, chips, fish, milk. -SS chant in front of the class. Activity 5. Listen and tick :7’ *Aim: help Ss to improve listening skill with some words chicken, chips, fish, milk. *Procedure: -Have Ss look at the pictures of Question 1 and say what they can see, saying Look at the pictures in Question 1, please! What can you see? Can you see chips and fish? Draw Ss’ attention to the boxes next to the -SS look and listen. letters a and b. Check comprehension. - Invite some Ss to point to the pictures and say the words in front of the class, saying Point to the pictures and say, please! E.g. 1a: chips, 1b: fish - Play the recording for Ss to listen and tick the box. -SS point and say. - Let ss to listen again and check . *Outcome: improve listening skill with some words chicken, chips, fish, milk. - Ss listen and tick. Activity 6. Look and trace.10’ *Aim: help Ss to look and trace with the - Ss listen and check. sound of the letter I/i. *Keys: 1. This is fish. *Procedure: 2. This is chicken.
  5. - Have Ss look at the letter I (upper case) and i (lower case). Ask Ss to make sure if they recognize the two forms of the letter. - Tell Ss to trace the letter I/i. T can -SS look and listen. demonstrate by air tracing or tracing the broken lines of the letter I/i on the board. -Then let Ss do the tracing. Give further support to those Ss who find it difficult to do the task. -SS trace. - Check the results of Ss’ tracing and give feedback. Ask Ss to work in pairs and swap their answers. Give Ss time to work. Go -SS check. around and offer help, if necessary. - Ask some Ss to show what they have done. - With a better class, write the letter I/i in -SS show. broken lines on the board and invite some Ss to trace them. Activity 7.Consolidation(2’) - Asking Ps to focus on sounds and vocabulary again.
