- WEEK 1 Wednesday, September 6th 2023 Class 2A, 2C, 2B; Unit 1. At my birthday party Lesson 1 A. Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: - Recognize and pronounce the letter Pp and its sound correctly - Understand, recognize and say the four Pp words: pasta, popcorn and pizza. - Develop speaking and listening skills. 2. Skills. - Listening, reading and speaking. 3. Attitude/ Quality: - Have concentration, listen carefully, express idea during lesson - To help Ss loving English. C. Teaching aids: CD, Phonics cards D. Procedure: I. Warm-up: Greeting - Greet the class by saying Hi. - Introduce your name I’m + name. - Write on the board Hello, I’m _____! Say “Hello, I’m _____!” Walk around the class, greeting pupils. Encourage them to answer “Hello, I’m _____!” - Introduce the topic of the new unit by playing the song “Happy Birthday!” and encouraging pupils to sing along. - Have pupils open the books and look at Unit 1, Lesson 1 (Page 6). II. New lesson: 1. Listen, point and repeat: - Introduction of letter P, its sound and how to pronounce the words beginning with Pp. - Write on board the letter Pp to introduce to the students the new lesson. - Instruct students how to pronounce the letter name and the letter sound by saying: “This is the letter P /pi/. The letter P says /p/.” - Repeat several times and check students’ pronunciation - Use the phonics cards introduce Pasta, popcorn and pizza, read the words out loud and have students listen, point and repeat. - Use pictures to help students to understand the meanings of the three words. - Stick the cards on board and have students repeat the words chorally several times - Guide sts play the “Slap the board” game with the four words above 2. Point and say - Show pictures and have pupils look at the picture again - Ask them to describe the picture again (in Vietnamese). Draw their attention to the letter P/p, and food, if necessary.
- - Get them to point to the letter P/p and say it, saying Point to the letter P/p and say, please! - Ask pupils to work in pairs or in groups to point to the picture and say the sound of the letter P/p and the words. Go around and offer help or correct pronunciation, if necessary. Invite two or three pupils to point to the picture and say the sound of the letter and the words in front of the class. If they performed well, praise them, saying Well done! 3. Let’s play: Kim game - Divide the class into two teams. Say “You are going to play a memory game.” - Display both sets of cards face up on the board. Give pupils two minutes to memorize their set. - Turn the cards face down on the board. Explain that when you say a word, a nominated pupil from each team must run to their set, try to remember which card shows the relevant picture and turn it over to show to their team. A correct card scores one point. When the pupils’ turn is over, they must put the cards back on the board and return to their seats. - Play the game. Remember to nominate a pupil from each team before saying the word. - Count the points for each team and announce the winner. The team with the most points wins. The winning team must then correctly pronounce all of the words. IV. Reinforcement: - Have sts point and say again 4 words - Give feedback - Ask sts practice saying the 4 words at home.
